Niculitel: early Christian basilica, monasteries, and Dobrogea wine
A quieter route for guests who want local history, reflective places, and a stop connected to regional wine.

Niculitel is a good choice when you want a calmer day focused on history and local culture instead of long routes. The area is known for its early Christian basilica, the monasteries nearby, and the Sarica-Niculitel wine area.
The basilica was built at the end of the 4th century, and beneath its altar lies a martyrs' crypt; the names of four martyrs killed at Noviodunum, near Isaccea, are written on the crypt's walls. The monument is run by ICEM Tulcea. Nearby, about 6 km from Niculitel, is Cocos Monastery, founded in 1833.
Build the route slowly: the basilica, then a monastery, then lunch or a stop at a local winery. It also works well on days when the weather is not right for the Delta or the mountains. For the monasteries, choose respectful clothing; for the basilica, check the opening hours on the ICEM website.
If you want to visit a winery or taste wine, ask the winery in advance whether and when it receives visitors. If you include a tasting, it is better not to drive: ask reception about paid transport and about combinations of stops that make sense in one day.
