Macin Mountains: a hike on Pricopanului Ridge
Granite ridges, wide views over the Danube, and a marked trail that starts in Macin.

The Macin Mountains are one of the best choices for an active day in northern Dobrogea. They are not high mountains, but the granite ridges, open light, and views toward the Danube make them feel very different from the flat delta landscape. The range is protected as the Macin Mountains National Park.
Pricopanului Ridge is one of the best-known trails in the park. The park describes it as a loop of about 14 km, marked with a blue stripe, starting and ending in Macin, with views over the Danube, the surrounding lowlands and, on a clear day, even Galati and Braila. The heights are modest, but the climbs, sun, and wind make it real effort: wear comfortable shoes, carry enough water, and use sun protection. For a shorter outing, walk part of the ridge and return the same way.
Spring and autumn are especially pleasant for walking. In summer, an early start is usually better than leaving at noon, particularly if you want to be back in Isaccea for dinner.
If you do not have a car or prefer not to drive after hiking, ask reception about paid transport. Before leaving, check the park's official trails and rules, and stay on the marked paths.
